Here are some other upcoming stories that are currently in the works...
By this, I mean that they are in the planning stages, not yet written or completed. Many of these have chapters that are in their first draft, and over time snippets of them may make it into a published edition of another book, so keep a sharp eye out for these since they are from slightly different genres (in case you're tired of superheroes and one of these is more to your liking...)
The ExpeditionWith the fall of human civilization in the distant past, the world has entered a new age and is ripe for conquest. Once in every generation, a new group of young people is sent out into the wilderness to take their place and do their part to tame and reclaim the earth. Brigg and his friends belong to the latest and most prepared group to set out from their home in Bresla, but strife and disagreement among the young colonists threatens to bring their journey to an end before it even begins. Add to that roving bands of savage bandits, terrifying creatures stalking them at every turn, and strange rods humming with mystical energies, and the lives of every person in the convoy are on the line the further away from home they travel. Will the new colony be successfully established in the end, or will everyone fall and perish in the dangers of the expedition?
In this two-part story spanning multiple generations, a group of young friends sets out to find their place in a coming-of-age saga, showcasing why human beings need to be able to work together and put aside their differences, sometimes for the sake of survival itself. Look for new information on Part 1 (The Journey) and Part 2 (The Division) to come after Masters of the Earth is finished. |
Signs of the Times
Mira Bremir is a young girl whose father is taken into custody by the authorities, sending her on the run in the care of her uncle and a washed out celebrity. Nolan Zephyr is a young man who finds himself tossed into a gladiator pit by a cold-hearted mercenary, only to befriend a pygmy cyclops with an enchanted sword and be rescued by a ruthless killer. Symon watches as his boss is killed in front of him by an ancient order of assassins for exercising his conscience, and then is put into his position, with pressure mounting on him to perform tasks that are morally questionable. Senator Berhtio of Ererwic refuses to compromise his devotion to the Maker and His sacred words for the sake of politics, landing him in hot water with his colleagues. All of these stories converge when the shard of an ancient, nigh-omnipotent sword kicks off the biggest arms race since the war against magic 100 years ago.
This multi-layered story is an example of what happens when a writer bites off more than he can chew, so he chokes on it, passes out, and has to have a fellow writer do the Heimlich on him before he can begin storying again. This will be perhaps my only writing project that will approach the size and scope of Masters. It’s a story about a teenage boy and girl from vastly different backgrounds in a richly set sci-fi/fantasy world who are drawn into a conflict that affects every social structure – economics, national and international politics, religion, the military, class systems, race and gender, etc. They are set on a path that causes them to question their place in the bigger picture and wonder about their relationship to their Maker. It’s meant to be an allegory for the spiritual condition of the United States of America coming into the 21st century. Also, there’s magic.
